To the Members, Families and Supporters of Kinderhook Elks Lodge,
What a month May was. Besides the monthly happenings of meetings, dinners, and breakfasts, it was a busy month. It all started off with the Celebration of Youth week in the first week of May. Here we had a dinner in honor of the ICC Boys Basketball becoming NYS Class B Champs. PDDGER Chris Akers and his crew did a great job on providing the meal. We received so many compliments and the team had a great time.
Next was the CPR/AED class held on May 2nd at the lodge for the public to get certified on this very important and lifesaving training. Thanks to Tammy McDermott for organizing this. Then was the SVP Homecoming, followed by the NYS Elks Association Spring convention. Again thanks to Chris Akers and his team for providing a wonderful Roast Beef dinner. Thanks also to PDDGER Leo Buell for being the Master of Ceremonies for the Homecoming. At the convention, the District had two new officers installed; William Mellan Jr. of Hudson Lodge #787 was sworn in as the new State Vice President and our own Chris Akers, PDDGER, was sworn in as the new State Trustee. Congratulations to both of you!!
For the later half of the month Catskill Lodge hosted a Homecoming for two of their own; PDD Jack Lubera (2020-21 year) and DD Tim Reed (2021-22 year). This was followed first by the initial Biker’s gathering in the pavilion and next by the Memorial Day weekend where the lodge participated in the parade on Monday. Further, Esteemed Leading Knight Chris Bellingham recited ‘In Flanders Fields’ at the ceremony following the parade.
It was also a heart wrenching month where members of the lodge were sick (including COVID) and others have passed from this world. To Our Absent Members.
For June, it is shaping up to be quite busy as well. First was have Initiation on Sunday, June 5 at 3pm. This is shaping up to be a good size class. It is followed by Flag Day ceremony on Sunday, June 12th. The Special Needs Luau is set for Saturday, June 18th, and the second phase of the Biker’s Gathering At the Pavilion is Thursday, June 23rd. Please note that the Comedy show scheduled for June 11th has been canceled. Also a reminder that though summer begins, June still has two lodge meetings (13th and 27th). Remember all elks are welcome to attend; these are your meetings.
Finally, thank you to each and every one of you for your dedication and fellowship to the ELKS and our lodge. Remember that this lodge, through all of your hard work, has provided over $1.5 million in time and materials to the communities of Northern Columbia County over the past couple decades. God Bless You All.
Fraternally,
Exalted Ruler John Piddock, SVP
